The programme supported by Directorate of Arts and Culture, comprised talks and presentations in the morning session, focussing on Śārṅgadēva’s Sangeet Ratnakar connecting theory with the performing aspects of dance and music.

The second session included Kathak and Odissi dance performances by Mahagami Vrind – a group of classical dancers from Mahagami, Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar). The programme was designed by noted dance artist Parwati Dutta, who also holds the Nana Shirgoankar Chair for Indian Music at Goa University.

Convened by Dr Prakash S.Parienkar, Director, VRPP, the event involved participation by eminent scholars like Manjari Sinha (author) from Delhi and Dr. Karuna Vijayendra (Dance Historian) from Bangalore.

Śārṅgadēva, a 13th century musicologist, wrote an important text “Sangeet Ratnakar”, which is of great academic value for music and dance practitioners.
