PERSON WITH DISABILITY: AR. STANY D’SOUZA, AN INSPIRATION TO ASPIRING PROFESSIONALS

Stany D’Souza, a young architect from Margao, has emerged as an inspiration not just for ‘people with disabilities’ but for all of us.

Stany is not only a successful architect today, but he is also an independent entrepreneur. He has employed other youth in his business, setting an example for others to follow.  

Stany, who has his roots in Karnataka, lost his mother when he was just one and-a-half-year old; and at the age of five, his right limb became inactive due to infliction of polio. He, however, fought the adversities; stood tall against the challenges as he completed his education that included a Diploma in Architecture.

Stany got married in 2014 and had just started with a family life when after a couple of years, lost his father.

Not to be deterred by the setbacks, Stany has carved a successful career and is an ambassador for the abilities of the persons with disabilities.

“I know and understand that there are many difficulties faced by a person with disability in his or her life. But please remember that it’s not just a disabled person (going through it), but even the normal able-bodied person and even rich people are also undergo tough situation or even worse in their lives.

“So I urge people with disabilities to come out of this depressive mindset and live your life like a king and be honest with yourself, ” advises Stany. 

Working as an architect today, Stany handles planning, designing tasks of various construction projects like bungalows, buildings, commercial complex and establishments; with assistance from 4 young architects he employs.

Stany is an active member of the organisation ” Disability Alliance for Inclusive Goa” and spreads posivity all-around. He led the Goa Wheelchair Cricket Team at the recently-concluded International Purple Fest Goa 2024 and made an impression on debut. He is also a keen sportsperson, actively playing Para table tennis and badminton events; and enthusiastic participant in cultural activities.

Stany, the all-rounder, is a beacon of hope for people with disabilities and also the able-bodied youth who complain about life being unfair to them.
