Manas Mavericks scored a comprehensive 44-run victory over holders Dempo Challengers to clinch the PGML 3.0 title at Panjim Gymkhana ground on Sunday.

Manas Mavericks, who won the toss and batted first, posted a huge total of 197/7 with Robin D’Souza blasting 37 runs off 11 balls (2×4, 4×6) after openers – Abhijit Bhandare (37 off 15 balls) and captain Ilyas Naroo (35) had set a terrific tempo to the inning.

Dempo Challengers bowlers were rendered virtually ineffective in the face of ever positive batting display by Manas Mavericks, who were the most consistent and entertaining team in the entire tournament.

Dempo Challengers suffered a jolt at the start with power-hitter Vijay Shankar Nagarajan being out cheaply, but the chase was resurrected in fine style by Dhilan Shah and Sumiran Mehta. Dhilan scored 38 runs of 21 balls (3×4, 3×6) while Sumiran contributed 40 runs off 21 balls (4×4, 2×6). The duo added 44 runs for the third wicket in quick time. Sumiran and Harsh Parekh (18) then added 52 runs for the fourth wicket taking Dempo Challengers to a competitive stage where the team score read 120/4 in 11.2 overs.

Thereafter, Dempo Challengers lost their way with spinner Rohit Rane (4/17) and Mukhtar Amlani (2/11) delivering crucial blows to ensure that Manas Mavericks pressed for victory. The defending champions were bowled out for 153 in 17.5 overs.
