PANAJI: Pedne Cultural & Sports Club and Amravati Sports Club-Amona won their respective matches in the ongoing Bandodkar Trophy (knock-out) cricket tournament organised by Panjim Gymkhana on Sunday.
Pedne Cultural & Sports Club beat Samrat Sport Club by 4 wickets at PG ground, Campal; while Amravati Sports Club edged out Goa Sports Academy narrowly by 6 runs at GCA academy ground, Porvorim.
Samrat won the toss and elected to bat. They however, failed to put up a big score as their innings folded up for 136 runs in 36.1 overs.
Ashish Naik with 38 runs, was the top-scorer. Dinesh Sawar (15), Yatish Naik (14) and Guruprasad Arorkar (12) also contributed to the total.
Pedne Cultural & Sports Club bowlers Ajinkya Kudtarkar (3/17), Sakharam Narulkar (3/30) and Akhil Shetye (2/23) kept on picking wickets at regular intervals to restrict their rivals to a low total.
Pedne Cultural & Sports Club chased down the target, reaching 139/6 in 25.3 overs. Shubham Chari (35), Utkarsh Pokle (27 not out), Milind Haldankar (21) made notable contribution with the bat. Samrat’s Ashish Naik picked up 2 wickets.
In the other match at GCA ground, Porvorim, Amravati Sports Club won the toss and elected to bat against Goa Sports Academy.
With runs coming from Rohit Naik (47), Mahadev Gauns (40), Paresh Phadte (38 not out), Shivraj Bhagat (31) and Pradeep Naik (28); Amravati Sports Club scored a total of 235/7 in 42 overs.
Goa Sports Academy’s Alekh Devari and Rohit Parpati took 2 wickets each.
In reply, Goa Sports Academy were all out for 229 runs in 41.4 overs. Paresh Naik (45), Kiran Parab (41), Alekh Devari (35) and Vinay Sawant (29) made important runs but failed to take their team to victory.
Amravati’s Paresh Phadte produced a fine all-round show with his bowling effort claiming 3 wickets to add to his crucial runs. Mahadev Gawas also claimed 3 wickets while Shivraj Bhagat clinched two wickets.
