PANAJI: The Rotary Club of Porvorim (RCP) will organise ‘Rotary Rain Run Ride Challenge’ (RRRRC) on the virtual mode, from September 15 to 19.
In a media release, RCP President Sagar Govekar said: “This year owing to the pandemic we shall be having the ‘Rotary Rain Run’ in a virtual format over five days. The event will comprise a 5k and 10k walk, 10k, 25k, 50k ,100k runs and 25k,50k,100K cycle rides.”
According to Govekar, the participants can take part in any one or all categories and need to complete the challenge within five days starting September 15 and ending on September 19.
Guirish Sawant, chairman of the event said that the registration for the event could be made online on www.rainrun.rcporvorim.org
“The activity has to be clocked on the running app Strava, Garmin or Samsung Fitness before being uploaded to the ‘Rotary Rain Run’ app. All participants who successfully complete the challenge will get electronic certificates and electronic medals by email. Participants can also buy event tee-shirts and medals online,” said Sawant.
Over the years, the RCP has contributed significantly to social projects which include providing drinking water purifiers to schools, adoption of schools, promoting self-help groups, conducting blood donation camps, supporting children’s libraries and literacy projects among others. The RCP also has a fully functional ‘Women’s Health Care Centre’ with a mammography machine to conduct camps and check-ups for breast and cervical cancer at Alto-Porvorim, where service is provided free of cost to the poor and needy.
According to RCP president Govekar, all funds raised from the RRRRC 2021 event, will be put back into RCP’s various social and charity projects. Govekar also said that this event was being supported by Rotary clubs in South Maharashtra, Goa, North Karnataka, several states of India and across the world.
