SAIL GOA 2023: GOA’S DAYNE COELHO PIPS AYN’S JEROME FOR GOLD MEDAL

Goa Yachting Association successfully organised Sail Goa 2023, a National Ranking Championship in Goa with local boy Dayne Coelho winning the gold medal.

The Race for the gold in the IQfoil men’s went to wire when Jerome Kumar of AYN took the gun in the first 2 races of the day to level up points with Dayne Coelho of GYA, who had to win the final race to claim his stake for gold.

Jerome Kumar who will represent India at the Asian Games, called upon his extensive experience in the sport but fell short by a whisker as Dayne used home advantage to his benefit and took the gun in the closely-contested race and evenly-matched series to win the gold medal. Jerome had to settle for silver and Saurabh Kumar of AYN for bronze medal.

In the IQfoil women’s category, Katya Coelho of GYA triumphed, bagging gold medal ahead of Ishwarya Ganesh of TNSA.

Ebad Ali of AYN took the gold in the RS:X class and is on the mark for his Asian Games participation. He was followed by Ved Prakash Pathak of AYN with silver and Mithelesh Kumar of EMESC with bronze.

In the RS:One Open category, Ganesh Vishvakarma of Trishna Sailing Club took all guns today to win the gold ahead Narayan Munda of Odisha Yachting Association with silver and Kayah Coelho of GYA with bronze.
Aditya Sangwan of AYN took gold with all guns today while T Madhu of AYN with silver and Abhinav Yadav of EMESC with bronze completed the medal tally.

The Raceboard Class men’s division saw Chennaih make a cleen sweep for the gold while NS Rawat of INWTC Goa held his nerve to claim the silver ahead of Kamlapati with bronze.

In the Youth Division, N Vamshi of INWTC Goa took Gold ahead of Adarsh Chunekar of GYA with silver and NVSK Vishwesh with bronze while the Grandmasters Division saw a major reshuffle with leader Gopal Amin unable to compete due to Injury and Capt. M Subramaniam claimed gold, Capt. Suresh Babu Silver and Brig PC Roy took silver.

There were no surprises in the Topper class as Jogendra Thakur of EMESC took gold, Raiti Babaji of Jellyfish Water Sports Silver and Col. Milind Prabhu of GYA Bronze. The Prize Distribution ceremony was held at Dolphin Adventure Sports and Capt. Jitendra Dixit Hon. Jt. Secretary General of YAI was the chief guest. Other dignitaries who were present and gave away prizes where Serafim Lournco of Lourenco Marine, Nitin Saxena of Organic India, Capt. Donde, Col. Satish Kanwar Jury Chairman, Chandrashekar Dalai PRO, Jijo Philip of Decathlon, Gopal Amin and Rainer Dias, President of GYA.
