SAJAN PRAKASH BECOMES FIRST INDIAN SWIMMER TO QUALIFY FOR OLYMPICS WITH ‘A CUT’

PANAJI: Sajan Prakash has qualified for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as the 27-year-old clocked 1:56:38 in men’s 200m butterfly at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome, to make history with the first-ever ‘A cut’ for an Indian swimmer.

Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju congratulated Sajan Prakash via Twitter. “I congratulate @swim_sajan for becoming the 1st Indian swimmer to qualify for #Tokyo2020 as he clocks 1:56:38 in men’s 200m butterfly at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome. It shows the commitment of our athletes towards making India proud,” tweeted the minister.

Recently, Sajan⁩ had broken the Indian record in 200m butterfly with 1’56.96, thus getting close to the ‘A cut’ history for India. He is coached by Pradeep Kumar.
