PANAJI: Sajan Prakash has qualified for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as the 27-year-old clocked 1:56:38 in men’s 200m butterfly at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome, to make history with the first-ever ‘A cut’ for an Indian swimmer.
Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju congratulated Sajan Prakash via Twitter. “I congratulate @swim_sajan for becoming the 1st Indian swimmer to qualify for #Tokyo2020 as he clocks 1:56:38 in men’s 200m butterfly at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome. It shows the commitment of our athletes towards making India proud,” tweeted the minister.
Recently, Sajan had broken the Indian record in 200m butterfly with 1’56.96, thus getting close to the ‘A cut’ history for India. He is coached by Pradeep Kumar.
