Goa’s Sakshi Naik and Aanora Xaviera Gracias; and Archi Katkar & Shyla Naik respectively registered a 1-2 finish in the under-16 girls 600m run & Pentathlon on Day 2 at the 37th West Zone Junior Athletics Championship in progress at Atal Stadium, Bambolim.
Sakshi and Aanora train at Fatorda RCC under the guidance of Patrick Soares. “I expected both the girls to do well and today they proved me right,” said the experienced coach of Sports Authority of Goa.
In the U-16 girls Pentathlon event, Archi Katkar won the gold medal while Shyla Naik took home the silver medal, to put icing on the cake.
The hosts bagged 15 medals on Day 2, which included 2 gold medals and 6 silver medals.
In some of the other key results for Goa on Day 2 – Vinit Khandeparkar clinched a silver medal in the Under-20 Hammer Throw event, while Rasika Patil earned a bronze medal in the women’s category. Rushala Gawander brought home a bronze medal in the under-20 women’s 1500m run.
