PANAJI: Saras Summer Powar and Rochel Pereira won the state under-8 chess tournament in open and girls category respectively, organised by Goa Chess Association on the online mode. A total of 27 players participated including a FIDE-Rated entrant.
Saras and Rochel remained unbeaten by scoring 4 points in the same number of rounds in their respective categories.
Saras defeated Aarav Prabhu Goankar and Naik Aryan respectively in 3rd and 4th round. Rochel beat top-seed Diya Sawal in the 3rd round and Rupika Raikar in the 4th round to win the title.
Saras and Rudra Nagarsekar (Open) and Rochel and Diya Sawal (Girls) will now represent Goa at the National U-8 championship from 10th September 2021.
