Prayank Gaonkar and Sidonia Da Cunha clinched the top places in open and girls categories respectively at the Late Shree Shirish Divkar Memorial All-Goa U-9 Open and Girls Chess Championship 2025 organised by Bardez Taluka Chess Association in aegis with Goa Chess Association.
In all, 82 players (Open category 48 and Girls category 34) from different talukas of Goa took par in the tournament held on 10th & 11th May, at Mapusa. The total prize-money amounted to Rs 13 thousand.
Rejmon Gavin Fernandes and Aaradhya Dessai finished second in respective categories. The top 2 players in each category, will represent Goa at National (U-9) Open & Girls Chess Championship 2025 in Gurugram, Haryana from 15th to 21st June.
Other prize-winners in open categoty were Sarthak Naik, Siaan Kerkar, Vivaan Kadam, Aarav Nagueshkar; U7 Category – Evan Antonio Telles, Ojas Rahul Kamat, Nirbhay Gaude & Naksh Sinari; Yogeshwar Shenaidesai, Swapnil Ghosh & Aarush Naik Parulekar were awarded as best Bardez players; Girls caterogy – Rao Shivanya, Dukle Vania Vaibhav, Ghadi Shreesha & Ghonge Drisha; U7 category – Yajwari Tukaram Shetye, Kavyshree Bhosle, Barreto Eliaza Phacelia & Jigyasa Gawas; Swara Morajkar, Swasti Maorajkar & Sharvi Anvekar were awarded as best Bardez players of the tournament.
