Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant commissioned various medical facilities at South Goa District Hospital, Margao. The facilities include an MRI unit established in association with Goa Medical College (GMC), Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nephrology Services.
The programme was graced by Health Minister Vishwajit P Rane , PWD Minister Digambar Kamat, MLA, Ulhas Tuenkar along with health-care officials, medical professionals and other dignitaries.
The initiative aims to enhance healthcare delivery in the region and improve access to advanced diagnostic and treatment services for the people of South Goa.
Bringing advanced diagnostic capabilities to Margao, the facilities include an MRI unit established in association with Goa Medical College (GMC), at an approximate cost of ₹12 crore, and an echocardiography machine costing approximately ₹35 lakh. Doctors and technicians have been trained to operate these facilities. A cardiologist from GMC will be available three times a week, while nephrology services will be provided on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Reducing the need for referrals to GMC, these services will enable more patients to receive specialised care at the district hospital, reducing the need to travel to Bambolim for such treatment. Echocardiography services will be provided to needy indoor and outdoor patients on designated days, while the availability of cardiology and nephrology services will improve access to specialised consultations closer to home.
