SPORTS COMMENTARY: PADMA SHRI BRAHMANAND SHANKHWALKAR RELEASES ROHIT BHANDIYE’S BOOK

Legendary footballer and Padma Shri Brahmanand Shankhwalkar released Rohit Bhandiye’s new book ‘Sports Commentary’ in Panaji on Wednesday, 28th May 2025. The foreword for the book has been written by Olympic medalist shooter Gagan Narang.

In a press release issued by the Panaji-based sports writer, Rohit describes the book as an anthology of articles written by him in various print media, offering readers a ringside view of popular sports such as cricket and football.  “Since, football and cricket are the most popular sports in Goa, its gets a big coverage in the book. There are write-ups on other disciplines as well such as hockey, table tennis, athletics, badminton, chess, lawn tennis, swimming and squash, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of India’s diverse sporting landscape,” he said.

With football and cricket as the cornerstones of sports culture in Goa, the book delves into the nuances of these games, providing detailed write-ups that are both insightful and engaging.

“At the same time, it extends its gaze to the broader spectrum of Indian sports, with thought-provoking articles on the Olympic Games, National Games, and the rise of women in Indian sports,” emphasises Rohit, who further added that the book covers several crucial topics such as functioning of football clubs in India, Odisha’s emergence as a hockey powerhouse, Goa’s cricket scenario, and the pressing need for quality coaching in Goa.

“Rohit’s writing reflects a deep commitment to highlighting both the triumphs and challenges of Indian sports, making this book a treasure trove for sports enthusiasts,” wrote Gagan Narang in the book’s foreword.

Arjuna Awardee and former India captain Brahmanand congratulated the author for very nice compilation and in-depth analysis of articles on multiple sports and hoped that sports lovers, sportspersons and parents of sportspersons will find this compilation very useful to read. This is Rohit’s second book.

Badminton star Saina Nehwal had written the foreword of Bhandiye’s first book ‘My Take on Sports’. Interestingly, Bhandiye’s both books have been foreworded by Olympic medalists.
