SSA GOVT COLLEGE-VIRNODA: ‘PEACE & TOGETHERNESS THROUGH OLYMPIC MOVEMENT’ INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR UNDERLINES MORAL VALUES

PANAJI: SSA Government College of Arts & Commerce, Virnoda-Pernem, in collaboration with International Association of Physical Education & Sports (IAPES); organised an International Webinar titled ‘Peace and Togetherness through the Olympic Movement’.

The Webinar was conducted on India’s National Sports Day (August 29), with its purpose being communication of moral values while celebrating Olympism.

The Webinar drew 170 participants from India and around the world, on the Zoom meeting platform. Associate Professor Dr. Kishore Mukhapadhyay was the keynote speaker, who deliberated upon the theme of the Webinar.

Speakers from India and Southeast Asia conducted the sessions. Dr. Lucia Bacal – Dela Cruz, spoke on the topic ‘Fair play and fight against racial discrimination through sports & games’ whereas, Dr. Jesus D Argarin highlighted upon ‘Building a better world through sports.’ Both these foreign speakers praised the organisers for the quality of the conduct of the event and wished India success in all its sporting endeavours. Kennedy D’Silva discussed ‘Women empowerment through sports’ while, Dr. Michael Dias enlightened the participants on ‘The journey of the Olympic stars’. 

Dr.  Benu Gupta, Lt. (Dr.) Sam Braganza, Dr. Ginna Tugade-Astillero and Dr. Teejay Panganiban were the Chairpersons for the respective sessions. They summarised each session and invited questions from the participants. Mark Antony R. Dalipa and Lt. (Dr.) Sam Braganza moderated the technical sessions.

Lt. (Dr.) Sam Braganza, College Director of Physical Education, was the Organising secretary and co-ordinated a successful mega event. Prof. (Dr.) Filipe Rodrigues e Melo, Professor and Principal S.S.A. Govt. College of Arts & Commerce, was the President and Associate Prof. Dr. Jewelson M. Santos, President of IAPES, was the Convenor of the event.

“It was pleasing for us and the resource persons to see such overwhelming participation, on a Sunday. There were no fees charged for participation. All the resource persons are dedicated to working for a better tomorrow through sports and provided their services as a social responsibility. We salute the athletes of our country and encourage everyone to participate in sports and physical activity to experience a wholesome development of one’s personality,” the organisers told livenewsgoa.com .
