St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim organised ‘Millet dish-making competition’ commemorating year 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’. The College also hosted a poster-making competition to commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The cooking competition was organised on 30th June by the Department of Botany in collaboration with the IQAC of the college. The objective was to create awareness of the nutritional value of millets and to provide teaching and non-teaching staff a platform to showcase their talents. Judging was based on use of millet as the main ingredient, taste and presentation.
Various millet dishes like Ragi dodol, Bajra patoleo, Ragi tizaan, Ragi satva, Ragi and Oats Cookies were prepared by the participants. The winners of the competition were Viona Correia (First place) Assistant Professor in Mathematics, Ludiloy Pereira (Second place) LDC and Dr. Maria Cineola Fernandes (Third place) Assistant Professor in Botany.
Earlier on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, observed every year on 26th June, St. Joseph Vaz College took proactive measures to empower young people and communities in preventing drug use and addiction.
In collaboration with the IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell), the Department of Chemistry organised an awareness session in the college seminar hall on 28th June, 2023. The session was attended by B. Sc students, teaching staff, and delivered by Angela Serrao, Assistant Professor in Chemistry and IQAC Coordinator. During the event, a pledge was taken to strengthen global action and cooperation towards achieving a drug-free world. Following the session, a poster-making competition on the theme of “Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” was held for college students.
