STATE SUB-JUNIOR BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: DBSA FATORDA, LBC, KJ’s, SUNSHINE, ST. MARY’S & UNPLUGGED ACHIEVERS MOVE AHEAD

Lourdes Basketball Club (LBC), Calangute defeated The Kings H.S., Chandor 20-10, while KJ’s, Miramar defeated Loyola Ignatius, Margao 23-2 and DBSA, Fatorda defeated St. Thomas BHS, Aldona 27-18 in the Boys Round of 16 of the Group Priority State Sub-Junior Basketball Championship 2026 at Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim.

Leroy Pinto top-scored for Lourdes with 12 points, supported by Melwyn Saldanha with 8, while Abvik Bhatnagar scored 6 for The Kings H.S. Arnav Mhapne was the star performer for KJ’s, scoring 16 points in their convincing win. In the third match, Aarav Dessai led DBSA Fatorda with 17 points, while Rafaelo Coelho scored 14 for St. Thomas BHS.

In the Girls Quarter-finals, DBSA, Fatorda defeated OLGHS-B, Bicholim 38-2, with Eva Mascarenhas leading the scoring with 14 points, followed by Jaezel Barreto and Tanya Verma with 8 points each. The Sunshine Worldwide, Old Goa edged Unplugged Achievers-A, Aldona 15-13, with Aadora Soares scoring 8 points, while Roshni Polle and Supriya Kumari scored 4 each for Unplugged Achievers.

St. Mary’s GHS, Mapusa defeated OLGHS-A, Bicholim 26-2, led by Valentina Fernandes with 11 points. In the final girls’ quarter-final, Unplugged Achievers-B, Aldona defeated KJ’s, Miramar 25-9, with Chrysanthe Parras scoring 13 points and Stacy Rebello 6 for the winners, while Megan Fernandes contributed 6 for KJ’s.

Don Bosco H.S., Panjim defeated Our Lady of Grace H.S., Bicholim (C) 26-11. Don Bosco dominated from the opening quarter, leading 10-0, before taking the second quarter 4-2. OLGHS fought back in the third quarter, winning it 5-4, but Don Bosco sealed the match with an 8-4 final quarter. Arjun Barbosa top-scored for Don Bosco with 12 points, followed by Joshua D Cunha with 6, while Rasool Shaikh scored 8 for OLGHS (C).  The championship is organised by Aliens Basketeers in association with the Goa Basketball Association and brings together young U-14 basketball talent from across Goa.

In the other matches, St. Brittos, Mapusa defeated OLGHS, Bicholim (B) 9-2, with quarter scores of 2-0, 2-0, 2-2 and 3-2. Kurt Antao led St. Brittos with 4 points, while Nidhish Falkar scored 2 for OLGHS (B). Siolim Basketeers defeated OLGHS, Bicholim (A) 25-12, with quarter scores of 6-2, 7-6, 10-0 and 2-4. Cristiano Mascarenhas was the leading scorer for Siolim with 12 points, supported by Aditya Hadfadkar with 4, while Altamash Mirza and Jayden Fernandes scored 6 and 4 points respectively for OLGHS (A).
