STCA’S ALL-GOA OPEN RAPID CHESS TOURNAMENT 2024 WITNESSES INTENSE COMPETITION ON OPENING DAY

Mandar Lad, Anish Naik, Atharv Katkar, Aaryavrat Dessai, Mayuresh Dessai, Shriya Patil, Jennica Sequira, Atharva Borkar, Samarth Borkar, Chaitanya Gaonkar, Aayush Shirodkar, Mark Telles, Tanvi Hadkonkar, Atharv Ghatwal, Shubh Borkar, and Rachel Pereira, all are leading jointly at the end of 3th round with 3 points each at STCA’s All-Goa Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2024. The tournament has been organised by Salcete Taluka Chess Association under the aegis of Goa Chess Association.

Top seed Mandar Lad (2052) of Bardez beat Avnish Borkar in the third round after defeating Rudra Gaonkar in the second round. Anish Naik (1687) of Ponda beat Aaron Dsouza in the 2nd Round and Prayank Gaonkar in the 3rd Round. Atharv Katkar of Salcete  beat Aarush Prabhu Nachinulkar in the 2nd round and beat Evan Telles in the 3rd Round. Aaryavrat Naik Dessai of Canacona defeated Lyia Silveria in the 3rd Round. Mayuresh Dessai beat Shaurya Agrasani in the 2nd Round and Sanvi Gaonkar in the 3rd Round.

The tournament has drawn 165 players from all over the state with 53 of them being FIDE-rated players.

Earlier, Pradeep Kulkarni, father of IM Bhakti Kulkarni, inaugurated the event in the presence of Ashesh Keni, Secretary of Goa Chess Association, Damodar Zambaulikar, Vice-President, Salcete Taluka Chess Association, Ketak Nachinolkar, and Dilip Vernekar, Treasurer of Salcete Taluka Chess Association. A total cash prize of Rs. 21,500 and trophies are up for grabs.
