SUR JAHAN 2025: GOA SET FOR CELEBRATION OF MUSIC FOR PEACE ONCE AGAIN

This February, brace yourself to experience the magic of Sur Jahan, the annual signature festival of banglanatak dot com, dedicated to celebrate the spirit of harmony and togetherness with music.

Guided by the motto ‘Music for Peace, Music for All,’ this much-loved non-ticketed international music festival has captivated audiences since its inception in Kolkata in 2011.

Over the years, Sur Jahan has travelled to iconic cities like Panaji, Delhi, Jaipur and Patna, delighting music lovers with its remarkable line-up of performances and fostering cross-cultural connections.

Over the years, Sur Jahan has welcomed music lovers from across the globe, including event managers, international festival organisers, and directors. With musicians from 32 countries
having graced its stage, the festival has become a symbol of cultural diversity and collaboration. It provides a unique platform for folk, national, and international artists to come together, fostering a spirit of unity through music.

In its 12th edition, Sur Jahan 2025 will take place across three iconic venues: Kolkata: January 31st – February 2nd; Bannabagram Baul Ashram: February 4th and Goa: February 7th – 8th.

Goa will host Sur Jahan 2025 in collaboration with the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa, and Kala Academy. The two-day festival will feature mesmerising performances by Umbra Ensemble from Iceland, showcasing medieval and contemporary Icelandic compositions; Folkcorn, the Dutch ensemble renowned for reviving traditional Dutch music with authenticity; and the Ale Moller Trio from Sweden, led by Ale Moller a.k.a Godfather of Nordic music, who is known globally for his contribution to Scandinavian folk music.

The Goa edition will also highlight local and national talent, including Sonia Shirsat, the acclaimed Fado singer of Goa; Habib Khan and Sadiq Khan Langa, presenting the folk music of Rajasthan’s desert, and The Ghumat Project, a unique initiative led by Carlos Gonsalves that blends Goa’s traditional percussion instrument, the ‘Ghumat’ with contemporary music.

Evening concerts, scheduled from 6 PM to 9 PM, will be complemented by daytime workshops where musicians will share insights into their unique styles, traditions, and instruments.

The festival will conclude with a grand closing ceremony, bringing together all participating bands in a collaborative performance, celebrating the festival’s core spirit of peace, unity, and cultural harmony.
