The World Legends Pro T20 League took cricket beyond the stadium and onto the sands of Miramar Beach with a vibrant beach cricket session that brought together cricketing greats, Goan leaders, and children from the local community in a celebration of sport, togetherness and Goa’s unmistakable spirit.
Set against the evening sunset backdrop of Miramar Beach, the activity saw Eoin Morgan, Piyush Chawla and Shikhar Dhawan share the sand with enthusiastic young participants, while Michael Clarke added a playful twist by stepping in as the umpire for the session.
The event was graced by Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, IT, Electronics & Communications, Printing & Stationery, Govind Gaude, Ex-Sports Minister, MLA Priol Constituency, Premendra Shet, MLA Mayem Constituency, Pravin Arlekar, MLA Pernem Constituency, Rajesh Faldessai, MLA Cumbharjua Constituency, and Kedar Naik; Director of Goa Tourism, all batting for Goa and underlining the state’s commitment to promoting sport as a unifying and community-driven experience.
Speaking on the occasion, Khaunte said: “Goa has always been known for its beaches, culture and hospitality, and today it is equally carving a strong identity as a premier sports tourism destination. Initiatives like the World Legends Pro T20 League showcase how sport can come alive beyond stadiums and become part of the Goan experience. Bringing international cricketing legends, local leadership and children together on a beach like Miramar reflects our vision of making sports accessible, inclusive and deeply connected to the community. Our aim is to position Goa as a preferred destination where athletes, fans and families can experience world-class sport alongside the state’s unique lifestyle and natural beauty.”
Mahesh Bhupathi, CEO of World Legends Pro T20 League, said: “Cricket has always been about bringing people together, and this evening at Miramar was a perfect reflection of that. Seeing legends, respected leaders from the state and children sharing the same space and playing the game in such a relaxed setting is exactly what the World Legends Pro T20 League stands for – creating experiences that connect the sport with the community.”
Far removed from competitive cricket, the beach session focused on joy, accessibility and shared moments with children batting freely, legends diving into the sand, and leaders cheering from the sidelines. The relaxed format reflected the World Legends Pro T20 League’s vision of celebrating cricket not just as a sport, but as a connector across generations and backgrounds.
Players highlighted the uniqueness of engaging with the game in such an informal, inclusive setting, while leaders reiterated Goa’s growing reputation as a destination that seamlessly blends sport, tourism and community engagement.
The beach cricket activity forms part of the World Legends Pro T20 League’s broader efforts to create meaningful off-field engagements that resonate beyond matchdays, strengthening the bond between the game, its icons and fans.
