The Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) is organising a seminar on the theme “Mechanism for Resolution of Disputes in Telecom, Broadcasting & Cyber Sectors” at Hotel Double Tree by Hilton, Arpora-Baga, Ximer, Arpora, Bardez, Goa, on 28th September, 2024. Various relevant and emerging issues related to the theme will be discussed in depth in the seminar.
Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Chief Justice, High Court of Bombay, will be the Chief Guest of the inaugural session which will begin at 10.00 AM . Justice Nitin Jamdar, Judge, High Court of Bombay; Justice M.S. Karnik, Judge, High Court of Bombay at Goa; and Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Tourism and IT, Government of Goa, will be Guests of Honour at the seminar. Justice Navin Chawla, Judge, High Court of Delhi, will also grace the occasion as a special guest.
The seminar will have panel discussions as well as interactive participation of the audience.
Besides judges, lawyers, government officers, representatives of various stake holders in telecom, broadcasting and IT sectors would be participating in the seminar.
Since its inception in 2000, TDSAT has been organising seminars in different parts of the country to deliberate upon relevant and emerging issues related to the concerned sectors and also to generate awareness about dispute resolution mechanism and remedies under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Act, 1997.
The TDSAT was established by government of India under Section 14 of the TRAI Act (as amended) by way of notification in the year 2000 to adjudicate disputes in telecom sector involving licensor, licensee and group of consumers. In 2004, the jurisdiction of TDSAT was extended to include broadcasting matters, and further to airport tariff and cyber matters by way of Finance Act, 2017. The TDSAT has also been assigned appellate jurisdiction over Aadhaar matters under S-33C of the “Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.
