Teddy Cardozo bagged the individual title and in the process, inspired his team to top the ‘Konkan Prant Invitational Mountain Run’ organised by Kreeda Bharati Goa in collaboration with Goa Athletic Association; at Borim-Ponda on Sunday morning.
Teddy, who was presented with Rs 5000 for his individual efforts clocking 48.05, cruised to victory in the 15km road run from start/finish point of Navadurga temple, along the Siddhanath mountain route. The other members of the triumphant Goan team were – Babu Gaonkar, Ankita Velip and Ayan Soares, who clinched the first position in the women’s individual category with a timing of 1:05:03 to collect Rs 5000.
The other Goan team comprising Milfort Piexote, Ankita Gaonkar, Siya Naik and Parashuram Ghadi; clinched the runners-up position.
The team from Thane-Maharashtra, comprising Bhumika Mashilkar, Jyoti Singh, Vanraj Shirke and Prashant Jadhav finished third.
Speaking to www.livenewsgoa.com after collecting his trophy, Teddy said: “It was a challenging event and a very good experience. We did not have any strategy as such although it was a team event. But we knew we had to give our best.”
Ayan Soares reflected on her effort, saying: “It was difficult to run uphill the steep climb with full strength. Yet, we manged to overcome it and we are here now as team champions.”
President of Goa Athletic Association, Adv Narendra Sawaikar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes along with other dignitaries.
