TILARI IRRIGATION PROJECT UPGRADATION TO MEET INCREASING DEMAND, RS. 128 CRORE SANCTIONED BY GOA GOVERNMENT

The Tilari Irrigation Project is set to undergo a major upgradation for which, the Government of Goa has sanctioned ₹128 crore. Regarded as the lifeline for large parts of North Goa, supplying 240 MLD of water; this requirement is projected to rise to 500 MLD with increasing demand, informed Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.

The Chief Minister inspected the Tillari Project and canal work alongside WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, Chief Engineer Pramod Badami, and WRD personnel.

“The Government of Goa has sanctioned ₹128 crore for the redesign and strengthening of the 28-km-long canal, ensuring a reliable water supply that meets IS standards. While half the work is completed, the remaining will be finished within the stipulated timeline.

“This redesign and strengthening initiative will guarantee uninterrupted water supply to key drinking water treatment plants – Assonora, Guirim, and Pilerne on the Left Bank, as well as Chandel, Mopa, and Dhargal on the Right Bank. We remain committed to maintaining and upgrading the canal and related infrastructure to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted water supply for the next 25 years, meeting the growing needs of the region effectively,” stated the Chief Minister.
