Vibha Jalmi played a match-winning role with the bat and the ball to inspire VD&SV Wagle HS Mangeshi in their South Goa District title victory at girls U-17 GCA President Cup, at Malkarnem on Tuesday.
Wagle HS beat Sarvodaya High School by 42 runs in the final. Having elected to bat, Wagle HS posted a big total of 181/2 in the allotted 20 overs. Vibha remained unbeaten on 60 runs. Siddhali Naik scored 22 runs. Sarvodaya bowlers struggled to get their act together and it was Mausam (2/35) who picked both the wickets that fell.
The all-rounder of a talent, Vibha then struck a fine rhythm with the ball and picked three wickets giving away just 14 runs as Sarvodaya lost wickets at crucial junctures and were restricted to 139/8 in reply. The lone resistance with the bat came from Nikhila Naik, who remained not out on 64.
Sonali Velingkar took two wickets while Sanisha Gaude and Gandhali Damle chipped in with a wicket each, to complete a fine victory for Wagle HS in the South Goa final.
Earlier in the Ponda taluka final at MCC ground-Margao, Wagle HS beat Government HS Dharbandora by 80 runs. Vibha bagged a fifer in the match with her bowling figures making an impressive reading in 4-0-9-5. She also scored 22 runs as Wagle being put into bat, made 134 runs. Government HS in reply, were bowled out for 54 in 13.4 overs.
