Verna Industries Association in association with Goa- IDC, Department of Environment is organising a Cyclothon for Mission Life on Sunday 4th June’23, to commemorate World Environment Day and World Bicycle Day. As cyclists converge in Verna, the entrance of Verna Industrial Estate that has been given a facelift will be inaugurated by P Pravimal Abhishek, IAS, MD Goa-IDC at 8.00 a.m. This will be followed by a tree plantation program in the industrial area.
Verna Industries Association (VIA) and Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) have also embarked on a ‘Mission Clean & Green Verna Industrial Estate’. This Cyclothon is being supported by seven Cycling Clubs from across Goa, namely, Xaxti Riders, Propedalerz, Sportif Amigos, Slopes & Bends, Panjim Cycling Club, Headquarters Goa Naval Area & Vasco Cycling Club.
Over 300 cyclists will start off from locations in Margao, Panjim, Ponda and Vasco to converge at Verna Industrial Estate. So far the youngest rider is a 10-year-old, while the senior most is 80. The cyclists will leave from the various locations at 6.15 am.
Pradip Da Costa, President – Verna Industrial Estate Association said: “We have received tremendous support from Goa-IDC and this Cyclothon will witness several government and police officials who will join in with cycle riders from across Goa to create awareness about having clean surroundings and greener industrial areas, like Verna.Cyclists are from all across professions, government officials and bureaucrats, police officers, naval officers and students have signed up to be part of this first-of-its-kind Cyclothon”.
From Margao, South Goa Principal Sessions Judge, Irshad Agha and SP Abhishek Dhania, IPS have shown keen interest to join the rally. Panaji may see Special Secretary to CM Ajit Roy, IAS, IGP, Omvir Singh Bishnoi, IPS, SP North, Nidhin Valsan, IPS, South Goa District Collector Asvin Chandru, IAS, Director Environment, Dr Sneha Gitte, IAS and CEO of ESG Kum Jyoti Kumari participate in the Cyclothon.
Chief Officer of INS Hansa Cmde Biplab Hota and SDPO Vasco DySP Salim Shaikh have shown are keen on being part of the rally that is being supported for its cause.
