Outstation marathon runners showered praises on the SKF Goa River Marathon; ahead of the 14th edition of the GRM, scheduled to be held on Sunday, December 8 at Chicalim. Organised by the Vasco Sports Club, the SKF Goa River Marathon has been considered one of the most popular runs in India.
Septuagenarian marathoner, Bhasker Desai (72) of Mumbai, who has not missed a single edition of the Goa river marathon said, “It is easily the most scenic race route in India. Green landscape, blue waters of the Zuari river, small hillocks, music bands and locals cheering you are features which are not experienced at any other race in India.”
Bhasker, who has a personal best time of 1:40 hours for a half marathon at the GRM in 2013 says, “I love to spend time on the Benaulim beach, where I can swim, eat, drink and cut off from city life.”
Neera Katwal (48), marathoner and running coach from Bengaluru has similar views. “The route is well planned with plenty of aid stations at regular intervals. Traffic is controlled along the entire course. The food and post race arrangements are great. We always have fun after the race, dancing to the live band.”
Neera, who has a personal best time of 1:35 hrs for a half marathon said, “I love the beaches in Goa. The race venue is close to Bogmalo beach where we always stay and enjoy swimming in the sea after the race.”
Preeti Maneesh (39) also from Bengaluru is looking forward to her second, SKF-GRM race. “Last year, I ran the 32km race and I still cannot forget the sound of the waves crashing against the river shores, as we ran past in perfect silence.”
According to Preeti, who has run a half marathon in 2:35 hrs, the early morning vibes in Goa are truly special. “I hope people start falling in love with the magic of Goa’s early mornings,” she said.
