Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs organised a ‘Walkathon’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, celebrated as the National Sports Day, today (August 29). The Fit India Movement pledge was also administered.
Sports Minister Govind Gaude flagged off the event in the presence of Director of Sports Arvind Khutkar, Deputy Director Jennifer Gonsalves and others.
Students of Government HS Dona Paula and Auxilium HS Caranzalem, staff of DSYA, SAG, Khelo India among others and members of public took part in the Walkathon, which involved a walk from DSYA office Campal to Yog Setu, Miramar walkway and back. In all, 250 participants were presented the certificates.
Meanwhile, the other departments also conducted the events. Director, Information & Publicity, Dipak Bandekar administered the ‘Fit India’ Pledge to DIP Officials on the occasion of National Sports Day in the office premises.
Secretary (General Administration), Sanjay Goel, IAS, administered the “Fit India Pledge” to all the Secretaries, Additional Secretaries/Joint Secretaries, Under Secretaries to Government & other Officers/Officials, to commemorate the celebration of National Sports Day at the Secretariat, Porvorim.
