‘WORLD DISABILITY DAY’ CELEBRATION AT MANIPAL HOSPITALS GOA

PANAJI: ‘World Disability Day’ was celebrated today with a medical camp, health talk, felicitation, EVM-VVPAT demonstration & awareness drive at Manipal Hospitals Goa in association with Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG), Rotary Club Panaji Mid-Town and IMA Bicholim.

Collector North Goa, Ajit Roy graced the programme along with Manish Trivedi, Head of Manipal Hospitals-Goa, Dr Shekhar Salkar, Avelino de Sa, DRAG President,
among others.

Orthopedic Surgeon Dr Dipchand Bhandare, Dr Shekhar Salkar and Dr Medha Salkar evaluated the persons with disability and advised accordingly.

Goa Blind Cricket Team, which recently participated in Nagesh Trophy National Blind Cricket Tournament in Delhi, was felicitated by North Goa Collector, Ajit Roy.

Under the Collector’s guidence, a team from CEO-Goa conducted demonstration of EVM & VVPAT for persons with disability with emphasis on voting process for visually-impaired segment.

Dr Bhandare delivered a talk on how his surgical interventions had helped many children with disability, to live a productive and active life; and even go back to activities like sports.

Avelino de Sa thanked Manipal Hospitals and Rotary Club for their initiative to celebrate World Disability Day and hoped it will be an annual feature.

Member of State Advisory Board on Disability, Prakash Kamat called for sensitisation in government for systems to be put in place to ensure that PswD not only get equality, equity in terms of accessibility, opportunities in all spheres of life including education, employment; but also protection of their dignity.
