In a landmark celebration of World Tourism Day 2025, the Travel & Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, organised Goa’s first-ever Inclusive Boat Cruise on September 26 – a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting inclusion in tourism.

The one-hour cruise started from the Santa Monica Jetty in Panaji, welcoming over 60 participants with disabilities dispite heavy showers, alongside around 15 participants without disabilities as volunteers, making it a truly inclusive experience. For many persons with disabilities, this was their first opportunity to enjoy a boat cruise – an experience often inaccessible due to disability and attitudinal barriers.

Unlike past initiatives that primarily involved students with disabilities from select special schools, this event marked a significant shift by including adults with disabilities from diverse professional backgrounds—such as teaching, government service, entrepreneurship, para-athlets among others. This broader representation showcased the evolving narrative of inclusion, where persons with disabilities are recognised not just as beneficiaries but as contributors to society.

“The enthusiastic participation in the River Cruise demonstrated the growing appeal of community-based tourism. We will continue to curate such experiences across Goa to highlight our state’s diversity and sustainability practices,” said Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism.

The concept of Inclusive Cruise was initiated by Jack Sukhija, President of TTAG, whose vision and leadership brought this inclusive event to life.

Vishant Nagvekar, member of State Advisory Committee constituted by the Government of Goa and one of the participant with disability, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the organisers, especially to the TTAG and Department of Tourism for initiating and supporting the unique Inclusive Boat Cruise. The event created a joyful and memorable evening where people with and without disabilities came together in celebration.

He emphasised the importance of organising more such inclusive events which go beyond just symbolic gestures – they offer a rare platform for persons with disabilities to connect, share experiences, achievements and ways to overcome challenges in life and feel seen and valued. The cruise fostered a sense of celebration, allowing participants to meet others with similar challenges and triumphs – something many had never experienced before.

The Inclusive Boat Cruise stands as a testament to Goa’s evolving tourism landscape – one that embraces diversity, accessibility and the spirit of equal opportunity, stated a press release.
