PANAJI: ‘Apoorva, Alaukik, Ekmev’, a book on acclaimed Indian personalities from the field of cinema, was released on the sidelines of the ongoing 52nd IFFI at Entertainment Society of Goa, here today.
Written by Yashodhara Katkar, who is a grand-daughter of the legendary film personality and Dadasaheb Phalke Award-winner Bhalji Pendharkar; ‘Apoorva, Alaukik, Ekmev’, chronicles the lives of brilliant artistes and writers including the young and talented Rahi Barve, director of 2018 horror film ‘Tumbbad’ (Hindi).
Yashodhara, who was delighted to unveil the book as a tribute on the death anniversary of her late grandfather, revealed that Rahi Barve had fantastic ability to write to begin with and her effort presents Rahi in the process before becoming known as ‘Tumbbad’ filmmaker. The book also describes the inspirational work and lesser known facets of Yashodhara’s mother and Goan writer late Madhavi Desai, grandmother Leelabai Pendharkar, who acted in the silent-film era films, among other luminaries like late Priya Tendulkar, focussed in the book.
Yashodhara expressed strong feeling of befittingly living up to the reputation and was pleased to take forward the legacy of her illustrious clan. ESG Vice-chairman Subhash Phaldessai hailed the book as a link between literature and cinema, while Goan writer Jyoti Kunkolienkar underlined the importance of such books being published where the society gets to learn from the struggles of the icons.
