YONEX SUNRISE ALL INDIA SUB-JUNIOR RANKING BADMINTON GOA 2022 ‘MAIN DRAW’ STARTS ON WEDNESDAY

NAVELIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will inaugurate the prestigious Yonex Sunrise All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton ‘Main Draw’ on Wednesday evening (July 27) at Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, here in South Goa. The eight-day national ranking tournament, including the qualifying rounds, has been organised by Goa Badminton Association under the aegis of Badminton Association of India, and in collaboration with North Goa District Badminton Association and Sports Authority of Goa.

“While the earlier Junior National Ranking tournament attracted 1700 entries, the Sub-Junior event has 3700 entries in all, making these two tournaments the biggest in history of badminton in India and a proud moment for Goa. From Goa too, there have been around 300 entries from players from across various talukas, demonstrating the significant progress made by our state in the sport of badminton. After 4 and half days of intense action and exciting matches, the Main Draw matches will begin on Wednesday during evening session and the tournament will be formally inaugurated by the Hon. Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant,” stated Sandeep Heble, Secretary of Goa Badminton Association.

Meanwhile, on Day four, Qualifying seeds Arjun Tanaji Birajdar [1], Vamsi Krishna Jarugumilli, and Sandeep Kumar R. [4] moved a step closer towards Main Draw qualification in U15 Boys Singles.

Number 3 seed Rajdeep Bora on the other hand suffered an upset defeat to Praveen Vanjarapu.  In Girls singles Under 15, Neetee Chaudhary upset qualifying top seed Seeza (1). Number two seed Sampitri Pal however was in her elements against Anushka S.Shanmugavel, winning in straight sets to move within one round of qualification.

In Under 17 Girls singles, Aashita Dubey recorded a thrilling three set win over top seed Madhumitha Madan Kumar (1) while Karnika Sree S. (2), Mansa Rawat (3) and Krishika Mahajan (4) all progressed closer towards qualification.
