About the Film:
The film revolves around a young teacher’s aspirations to escape the confines of a small village after completing mandatory duty. Facing the despair of a seemingly gloomy life, the protagonist’s perspective takes an unexpected turn with the help of a supportive colleague, Nuray.
About the Director:
Nuri Bilge Ceylan, born in Istanbul in 1959, has established himself as a prominent figure in filmmaking. His journey began with the short film Koza in 1995, competing at the Festival de Cannes. Notable achievements include the Caligari Prize at the Berlin Film Festival for Kasaba in 1998 and the Grand Prix and Best Actor prize at Cannes for Uzak (Distant) in 2003. His film Winter Sleep won the Palme d’Or at the 67th Cannes Film Festival in 2014. Six of Ceylan’s films, including About Dry Grasses were submitted as Turkey’s entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
