About the Film:
The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964, Italian with English subtitles)
Directed by: Pier Paolo Pasolini
Duration: 2 hours 10 minutes
A story told with as much simplicity as one possibly could, Pier Paolo Pasolini’s film ranks among the very best. As the title suggests, the film is inspired by the Gospel of St. Mathew and using the text, it chronicles the life of Jesus Christ. Passolini himself was an atheist and his approach using Italian neorealism and brilliant storytelling is what makes this film one for the ages – it was shot without a script following Mathew, page by page.
