YMCA Madras beat YMCA Aizawl 5-1 in the final of 1st All-India Inter-YMCA Futsal Tournament 2023 at Don Bosco HS Artificial turf, Panaji. The three-day tournament was jointly-organised by YMCA Panjim and YMCA Bombay and drew to a grand conclusion on Tuesday night on the occasion of National Sports Day.
YMCA Madras started well and maintained their upper hand over the proceedings throughout the match. They led 2-1 at half time.
The title clash was a very fast-paced affair and saw some great skills being exhibited.Though Aizawl were pegged to be the favourites, YMCA Madras put on a stellar show. Earlier, a women’s exhibition match saw FC Tuem A and FC Tuem B in action.
India Futsal team coach Joshua Vaz congratulated the organisers for conducting the event as per the rules and regulations spelled out at the workshop under his guidance. “Futsal is a growing sport and is one of the best ways to develop footballers,” he asserted.
Vincent George, National President, NCYI, was the chief guest and have away the prizes in the presence of other dignitaries including Bertram Devadas, NGS, NCYI; Reji George, Hon. Treasurer, NCYI; Mangesh Desai, Manager, FIFA TDS, Dr. Koshy Alexander Vaidyan, Secretary, Youth Work Department, NCYI; Adv Rui Rodrigues, president, YMCA Bombay; and Leonard Salins, secretary. The final was also graced by the board members of YMCA Panjim – Clyde Lobo, President; Adv Joseph Vaz, Chairman, Property Committee, YMCA.
Addressing the gathering, Vincent George hailed the players for putting up a great show. He also announced that the next edition of Futsal will be a bigger affair and to be hosted by Thiruvananthapuram. He praised organisers YMCA Panjim and Bombay for hosting the event in a grand manner.
