Panaji witnessed a mesmerising, marathon Shigmo Float Parade marked by amazing creativity as always and fervour; as a big number of mythological floats and thunderous ‘Rommtamel’ groups made their way along the DB Road flanked by a sea of enthusiastic crowd – locals and tourists alike- through Saturday evening before concluding in the wee hours of Sunday.
The Capital city came alive in a riot of colours, music, and culture during the annual people’s festival, showcasing the vibrant heritage of Goa through traditional dances, hymns, customs and more.
The float parades commenced around 5pm in the presence of Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director Tourism, Government of Goa, Inspector General of Police, Omvir Singh Bishnoi and Panjim Shigmotsav Committee Office-Bearers; on the makeshift route as Smart City Panaji works are ongoing around the usual route of 18th June road.
“Shigmotsav is not just a festival; it is a celebration of our shared heritage, our rich culture, and our unwavering sense of community. It is a time when we come together, not only to honor our traditions but also to embrace the joy and unity that they bring. As we continue to celebrate Shigmotsav, let us cherish this time together, and may the spirit of Shigmotsav inspire us to come together in peace, harmony, and celebration,” stated Anchipaka.
