BPS SPORTS CLUB TO HOST 1ST  STATE  PICKLEBALL MAJOR RANKING CHAMPIONSHIP

Pickleball, one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, will make its state-level debut in Goa in January 2025, with Margao’s prestigious BPS Sports Club, in association with the Goa Pickleball Association under the aegis of All India Pickleball Association (AIPA), hosting the state’s first-ever All-Goa Major Ranking State Pickleball Championship. 

Scheduled from January 3 to 5, the championship aims to bring together pickleball enthusiasts from across the state to compete in various categories, including men’s and women’s open (singles and doubles), men’s 35+ and 50+ (singles and doubles), mixed doubles (open) and mixed doubles (35+). Registrations are open until December 20, 2024, offering an opportunity for players of all skill levels to participate in one of the fastest-growing sports globally.

“Pickleball is a game for everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned player or trying a paddle sport for the first time, this is the perfect opportunity to pick up the paddle and experience the thrill,” said Yogiraj Kamat, President of BPS Sports Club.

BPS Sports Club will also be conducting a free introductory workshop, in order to familiarise the sport with potential participants at its premises in Margao on December 22, from 3:30pm onwards. The workshop will be conducted by coach Willy. It will be open to all individuals interested in learning the fundamentals of pickleball and improving their skills. 

“Pickleball itself is a unique paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Known for its simplicity and accessibility, the game is suitable for players of all ages and experience levels. Its easy-to-learn rules and dynamic gameplay have made it a global phenomenon, drawing millions to the courts worldwide, “ said Manguirish Kunde, Secretary of BPS Sports Club, Margao. 

The organising committee members of the state’s first-ever All Goa Major Ranking State Pickleball Championship, namely Manguirish Kunde, Nihaal Borkar, Anup Sardesai, Ninad Kamat, Wilfred Jaques and Lincoln Furtado are working towards making the event a success and ensuring maximum participation.

The debut of the event in Goa, not only highlights the growing popularity of pickleball in the state, but also celebrates the rich heritage of BPS Sports Club when it comes to promoting sporting events. The upcoming championship promises an action-packed event filled with competitive matches and camaraderie, giving players and fans of the new sport alike, a chance to immerse themselves in the sport while contributing to the rich sporting culture of Goa.
