GOA COMMITTED TO PROMOTE INNOVATION IN OCEAN SCIENCE: DR PRAMOD SAWANT

National Conference of Ocean Society of India ‘OSICON-25’, commenced at CSIR- National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula on Wednesday. The theme for the 3-day conference is Sustainability of Oceans and Climate Change.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant declared the prestigious Conference open with India’s brightest minds in the field of Ocean research converging on Goa. Welcoming 650 delegates to the state, the Chief Minister advised the gathering to enjoy Temple tourism in Goa.

Highlighting the importance of Ocean to the economy of the coastal state, Dr Sawant said: “The Government of Goa has always been committed to promote innovation particularly in Ocean Science. We collaborate with scientific institutions including NIO to address coastal erosion, marine pollution and sustainable fisheries. Goa has been in the forefront of promoting the Blue Economy initiatives focussing on sustainable marine tourism and fisheries management.”

The chief minister released the Souvenir, in the presence of Director CSIR-NIO Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, President OSI, Kurian NP, General Secretary OSI, R Muni Murari, Convener Dr. Jaya Kumar Seelam.

Dr Sawant also congratulated CSIR-NIO in its Golden Jubilee year, for their contribution in scientific studies and efforts for conservation of the oceans.
