PANAJI: Joy Kakodkar won Tiswadi Taluka Offline Open Rapid Chess Tournament organised by Super Sports Club-Panaji under the aegis of Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association. He remained undefeated, scoring 6 points from 7 rounds. The competition was held at Mahalaxmi Hindu Vachan Mandir Hall-Mala, Panaji, on Sunday.
Vedant Angle and Alana Andrade scored 5.5 points each. However, due to a better tie-break score, Vedant finished runner-up while Alana took the third place.
Other prize-winners from 4th to 12th places are: Pratik Borkar, Love Kakodkar, Shreyash Hawal, Keya Phadte, Aiden Jesus, Savio Grao, Avaneesh Sawant, Varad Shirodkar, Subhash Jog, Shrivalli Gandhi.
Various category prize-winners (U-7, U-9, U-11 and U-13): Aditya Dublay, Shreysht Rane, Augastya Mashekar, Mrugaja Sardessai, Raunak Sawant, Trivikram, Veeraja Dessai, Uday Pathak.
The tournament saw a return to action in the offline mode after a gap of more than a year due to Covid-19 pandemic. Players however, wore a face mask. Cash prizes worth Rs 8000 and trophies were presented by chief guest Alla Baksh, Satyawan Harmalkar, Mahesh Candolkar, Prakash Sawant, Naresh Pednekar.
