Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), in collaboration with Government of Goa, has announced ‘Aakash Kandil‘ (lantern-making) competition as part of the 56th International Film Festival of India 2025 (IFFI 2025). This initiative celebrates Goa’s rich cultural heritage, fostering creativity and community spirit through a stunning showcase of traditional and innovative lantern designs. Following are the key details of the competition:
Participation Criteria: Open to all residents of Goa.
Entry Limit: A maximum of 600 entries, with a cap of 50 entries per Taluka, accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Participation incentive: Each participant will receive Rs. 500 as a token of appreciation for their effort and creativity.
Materials to be used to make lanterns: Participants may use any material other than thermocol, promoting environmentally friendly creations.
Submission Deadline: Last date to submit entry is18th November 2025 by 5 pm.
Judging and Rewards: The Selection Process will entail 3 winners from each taluka, and they will receive prizes as recognition of their craftsmanship. The first prize is Rs. 5000, 2nd prize is Rs.3000, while the 3rd prize is Rs 2000 for each taluka.
Judges Decision: The decision of the panel of judges will be final and binding.

It may be noted that the completed ‘Aakash Kandils’ must be submitted on 20th November between 10 am to 12:30 pm at ESG office, near Panaji market. ESG will provide holders, bulbs, and electricity connections for display purpose.
The competition is an opportunity for participants to illuminate IFFI 2025 with their artistic vision while contributing to a collective celebration of Goa’s creativity and traditions. ESG has invited all talented individuals across Goa to join this initiative and showcase their ingenuity on an esteemed platform.
