Sonics produced a composed and commanding performance to defeat Jades 39–21 and emerge champions of the Women’s category at the State Senior Basketball Championships for Men and Women, co-sponsored by Priority Constructions and organised by Lourdes Basketball Club in aegis with the Goa Basketball Association and the Sports Authority of Goa.
In front of an energetic crowd at the Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim, Sonics displayed superior finishing and big-match temperament to clinch the coveted title. Quarter-wise scores read: Q1: 8–3, Q2: 9–9, Q3: 14–7, Q4: 8–2 in favour of the champions.
Sonics relied on their experienced core throughout the contest, with Fleur Vaz (13 pts) and Keiya Fernandes (13 pts) leading the charge through sharp drives and composed mid-range shooting. Kim D’Souza, who contributed 9 points, played a crucial role with her tenacity and control, earning her the MVP of the Finals. Rochelle Fernandes also made a significant impact with tireless running and defensive pressure, helping Sonics maintain momentum whenever Jades threatened a comeback.
Jades, featuring several top Goa players, put up a spirited fight, with Atika Suriya (11 pts) and Amisha Lotlikar (10 pts) battling hard to keep their side in contention. They were well supported by Sarah Hussain, Pratigya Gupta, and Laxmi Kewat, who contributed with hustle plays at both ends. Despite the even matchup on paper, Sonics pulled ahead in the second half with superior execution, sealing a well-deserved championship victory in a final that showcased the depth and quality of women’s basketball in Goa.
