Goa State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan has been approved, and the processes for its effective implementation are to be formulated. The 45th Board Meeting of the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) was chaired by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant at Mantralaya, Porvorim; where the key discussions focussed on strengthening Biodiversity Management Committees, the Goa State Biodiversity Conservation Awards 2025, and progress on Biodiversity Heritage Sites.
After the meeting, the Chief Minister revealed that consultations are to be held with MLAs and HoDs for effective implementation of the
Goa State Biodiversity Strategy & Action Plan.
Dr Sawant also chaired the 19th Meeting of the Goa State Wetland Authority (GSWA). Major decisions were taken regarding the conservation of existing wetlands, identification of additional wetlands for protection, and the wise and sustainable use of mining pits.
The Chief Minister also informed about the onboarding of specialised agencies for wetland ground-truthing to support scientific mapping and conservation.
The 4th Central Project Steering and Management Committee (CPSMC) meeting of the GoVAN Project was also held.
The progress of the project was reviewed. FIDR and GoVAN teams presented updates on key interventions aimed at improving nutrition, community development and grassroots welfare.
‘GoVan’ is a brand developed by Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) under its project with the aim of “Conservation of Biodiversity through livelihood interventions.
The Chief Minister also chaired the 1st meeting of the Special Task Committee on Salt Pans.
Government of Goa has introduced a dedicated scheme for Salt Pan Conservation, Support and Revival.
“This initiative aims to restore traditional salt farming, provide financial assistance to salt pan owners, and safeguard Goa’s rich cultural and agricultural heritage,” asserted the Chief Minister.
