HARYANA’S AVANI & DEEPSHIKHA CLINCH GOLD MEDALS IN U-21 COMPETITION AT 1ST ALL-INDIA INDOOR ARCHERY TOURNAMENT

Haryana stamped their authority and class on the competition, brushing aside Maharashtra archers’ challenge on Day 5 of the 1st All India Indoor Archery Tournament organised by Amateur Archery Association Goa under the aegis of Archery Association of India and Sports Authority of Goa at Dayanand Bandodkar sports complex, Peddem-Mapusa on Thursday.

After Maharashtra archers ruled the roost in the earlier age-group events, Haryana’s international archers Deepshikha and Avani Malik emerged champions in the U-21 compound and recurve women’s events respectively today. The 15-year-old Varuni Malik also from Haryana, bagged the silver medal in compound event, finishing just one point behind her state-mate.

Aadityaraj Pagare of Maharashtra won the Gold medal in men’s recurve event, while Devansh Singh (Rajasthan) topped the compound event. Rajasthan’s Yatin Ninama grabbed gold medal in Indian round boys category while West Bengal’s Diya Banarjee clinched top prize in girls section.

Other results: Recurve boys: 2nd – Aditya Jawa (Mah), 3rd – Goldi Mishra (Jharkhand); Girls: 2nd – Mrunmai Mahendra Kadam (Mah), 3rd: Twarita Salunkhe (Mah). Compound boys: 2nd – Magapu Suhas (AP), 3rd – Mihir Nitin Apar (Mah); Girls: Kamineni Keerthana (AP). Indian Round (boys): 2nd – Pintu Kumar (Jharkhand), Devansh Negi (Uttarakhand); Girls- 2nd Dhoushika Tasneem S (TN), Ambika Kumari (Jharkhand).

Sports Authority of Goa executive director Dr Ajay Gaude was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony. Amateur Archery Association Goa president Kiran Kandolkar was also present.
