The Department of Library, St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, has announced a unique State-Level Digital Detox Challenge titled “Read More, Scroll Less” as part of Digital India Day(1st July) and National Reading Month (19th Jun-18th Jul) celebrations.

“In today’s digital world, social media and excessive screen time consume a significant portion of our daily lives, often without us realizing it. Through this initiative, we aim to encourage people to consciously disconnect from screens and reconnect with meaningful real-life experiences,” states a press release by the college.

Open to all residents of Goa, the challenge invites participants to reduce their social media usage and utilise that time for more enriching activities such as reading a physical book, visiting a library, spending quality time with family and friends, pursuing a hobby, practicing yoga or exercise, taking a walk in nature, or reflecting on personal goals.

As a special highlight, participants are encouraged to observe a Digital Detox Day on 1st July, staying away from social media and non-essential screen usage . They will then share their experiences with the college through a Google Form survey by the link provided in the article to be published in a couple of days.

“This initiative seeks to create awareness about mindful technology use and inspire individuals to develop healthier digital habits by learning to disconnect in order to reconnect with renewed focus, creativity, and well-being.

The challenge is open to everyone from young children to senior citizens and we are confident that, with your support, we can inspire a positive shift in mindset, motivating people to spend less time scrolling and more time reading and engaging in meaningful activities,” emphasised the press communique.
