A renewed push towards modern, efficient and citizen-friendly registration services marked the celebration of Registration Day in Goa on Sunday, November 1, at the Multipurpose Hall, Directorate of Art and Culture, Patto, Panaji. The occasion highlighted the State’s commitment to modernising registration services and improving public facilitation.

Celebrating departmental progress and achievements, the Registration Day initiative, which began in 2018, provided an opportunity to review the functioning and modernisation efforts of the Registration Department. CM Dr. Pramod Sawant congratulated the department and appreciated the enthusiasm of its employees in organising the programme and participating in cultural activities. He noted that such initiatives foster teamwork, coordination and a positive work culture, while appreciating State Registrar Ms. Aisha Vaingankar for her efforts towards improving departmental functioning.

Announcing key reforms in marriage registration, CM Dr. Pramod Sawant stated that the government plans to make registration services available at more convenient locations and explore facilities for destination wedding registrations in Goa. He also announced the establishment of pre-marital counselling centres to guide couples on marital responsibilities, mutual understanding and potential challenges in married life. Additionally, the department will introduce marriage certificates featuring colour photographs of the bride and groom. CM Dr. Sawant stressed the need to embrace digitalisation and modern technology to make registration services faster, transparent and citizen-friendly.

Giving a boost to infrastructure and digital services, CM Dr. Sawant informed that new office facilities are being developed at Bicholim and Valpoi, while a new Registration Office is planned at Cacora. An upgraded online system will enable citizens to obtain Nil Encumbrance Certificates from anywhere. He also highlighted the initiative to establish a separate office of the Inspector General of Registration in North Goa, reiterating the government’s focus on improving service delivery through modern infrastructure and technology.

The programme was attended by Sanjiv Gadkar, IAS, Secretary (Civil Supplies), State Registrar, Additional State Registrar, Aisha Vaingankar, State Registrar-cum-Head of Notary Services, District Registrars Suraj Vernekar and Aamir Parab, along with officers and staff of the Registration Department.
