PANAJI: FC Goa and Sirvodem Sports Club PSA Dubai, both registered impressive wins on the opening day of the 5th GFA Vedanta Women’s League on Thursday.
While FC Goa came up with a strong second-half performance to score a commanding 3-0 win over United Club of Telaulim at Navelim, Sirvodem SC PSA Dubai ran riot over Compassion FC with a 10-0 win at Dramapur ground.
UC Telaulim managed to hold FC Goa goalless in the first half. Telaulim’s Reema Noronha was holding guard in the midfield and created hurdles for FC Goa strikers. However, the breakthrough for FC Goa came in the 52nd minute and it was Vailanka D’Souza whose power-packed long-range shot had no answer from Telaulim goalkeeper.
Once up by a goal, FC Goa scored two more goals through Velanie Fernandes in the 69th and 79th minutes to take the final tally to 3-0. Velanie scored her first with a stunning free-kick, while her second strike was even better. On getting a loose ball in the midfield, Velanie took it on her stronger right foot and slammed it into the top corner.
While it was Velanie at Navelim, it was Titli Sarkar who showed no mercy towards Compassion FC. Titli smashed in a double hat-trick, scoring seven goals. Vinoshka Fernandes netted a brace and Raveena also logged in a goal in the massive 10-0 win for Sirvodem SC PSA Dubai against Compassion FC.
