PANAJI: A record 103 cyclists, who participated in the all-Goa women cycling ride on Sunday (October 31), completed the 100km and 50km riding challenges; states a press release by Xaxti Riders.

‘Go Girls Go’, organised by Margao-based cycling club Xaxti Riders, was flagged-off by Dr Ira Almeida, Director of Directorate of Health Services.

“Such rides, specially designed for young girls and women, go a long way in inculcating fitness and empowerment,” said Dr Almeida.

“The aim was to showcase the spirit of sisterhood and bonding as well as make women realise their capabilities,” explained ‘Go Girls Go’ co-ordinator Binota Nadkarni.

The cyclists, aged from 9 to 68 years, were a mix of doctors, architects, dentists and lawyers. The youngest rider for 100-km challenge was Pearl Gonsalves (11) and oldest was Celsa Fernandes (68).

Youngest participant Saffa Mokashi (9) completed 50-km challenge.

There were mothers and daughters who rode together, bridging the generational gap through the power of the road and the charm of the wheel. Each cyclist was presented with a ‘Finisher’s Medal’.

‘Go Girls Go’ was supported by Champs Goa, Aster Hospital, Directorate of Health Services, apparel partner Daily Crayon and venue partner, Ravindra Bhavan-Margao.

Xaxti Riders launched the ‘Go Girls Go’ 100km all-women cycle ride with a group of 25 cyclists, last year. They had to restrict the participation at 25 due to safety considerations on account of the pandemic.
