PANAJI: Dr. B.S Patil has explained the significance of ‘Lex Infinitum’ to drive home the purpose that ‘mediation gives us infinite opportunities to settle disputes.’
Dr Patil is an expert assessor at the semi – final round of lex infinitum 2022. He is also one of the expert panelists at the Mediation Musings. He has drafted the problem “Dogs’ Conundrum” for the competition.
“Lex infinitum, the name was chosen to convey the idea that mediation gives us infinite opportunities to settle disputes. After seven years, without hesitation, I can say, the mediation at lex infinitum, the participants, volunteers and the core team are open to infinite opportunities in the legal field,” explained Dr Patil, who is presently an Associate Professor and has been the part of VM Salgaocar College of Law for the last two decades. He is also faculty for the LL.M Program of Research Centre of the college.
He is director IQAC, and is on the Editorial Board of the Salgaocar Law Review and also a member of the Steering Committee of the Child Rights Clinic of the College. He has developed competitions, workshops and modules for teaching skills of Negotiation and Mediation. He is regularly invited to organise the National Rounds of the Louis M. Brown Client Counselling Competition and to train the participants for the same. He has been the Director of the Legal Aid Society, Chairperson of Moot Court Society, ADR Board and Lex Infinitum. He was involved with several research projects on “Improving Access to Legal Aid” funded by United Nations Development Fund and with the project on “Access to Justice” funded by United Nations Development Program and the Government of India.
Dr Patil has been part of the UGC initiative of E-Pathshala and access to justice
He is a visiting faculty for the LL.M Program on Human Rights and ADR Certificate Program at Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He is empanelled as a resource person in the Karnataka Institute for Law and Parliamentary Reform (KILPAR), Bangalore. He is a member of the international organisations like the Global Alliance for Justice Education and also South Asian Forum of Clinical Law Teachers. He has published several scholarly articles and essays in leading law journals.
