PANAJI: Goan Varta Live defeated Gomantak in the final to emerge champions at the 9th All-Goa Inter-media Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists Association Of Goa (SJAG) in collaboration with GTBCA and SAG at Campal here recently.
Electing to bat, Gomantak scored 80 runs in the allotted 6 overs. Santosh Kubal was the highest run-getter with 34 runs to his credit, while Kedar made 13 runs. For Goan Varta Live, Laxman took 2 wickets; Chitra and Krishna baged one wicket each.
In reply, Goan Varta Live rode into a blistering half-century by Laxman (51 runs) to reach the target in just 3.5 overs, losing only one wicket. Gangaram contributed 12 runs in the run chase.
The Navhind Times, Goan Varta, Doordarshan and Rest of Electronic Media were the other participating teams.
Following prizes were presented: Disciplined team: Pudhari; Player of the tournament: Chitra Kotkeni of Goan Varta Live, Best Batsman: Kedar (Gomantak), Best bowler: Sushant Gawas (Gomantak), Man of the final: Laxman (Goan Varta Live).
Amit Harmalkar was the chief guest, while Naresh Parsekar was the guest of honour at the prize distribution function. Mahesh Gaonkar, President of SJAG, GTBCA’s Ajinkya Naik; SJAG office-bearers Dhiraj Mahambre, Sachin Korde, Samir Naik, Anirudha Raul and Kanzil Rodrigues were also present.
