PANAJI: AIM Ethan Vaz and Jennica Sequeira from Salcete won the Late Smt Taramati Candolkar Memorial Goa State U-12 Open & Girls Chess Championships/ Selection, respectively.
Ethan remained unbeaten by scoring 6 points from 6 rounds while Jennica scored 4.5 points from 5 rounds. Abhir Prabhu of Pernem stood second with 5 points while Saeeja Dessai finished second in girls category with 4 points .
First two players in each category are selected to represent Goa at the U-12 Nationals to be held at Mandya-Karnataka from 9th to 14th April 2022.
The tournament was organised by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association under the auspices of “Goa Chess Ad- hoc Committee”, at Mahalaxmi Vachan Mandir Hall, Mala; states a press release.
Other prize-winners in open category: Vedant Angle, Rajveer Patil, Sairaj Narvekar, Kavish Borkar. In girls category: Vaishnavi Parab, Diya Sawal, Shrama Murudkar, Shrivalli Gandhi. Best U8 & Tiswadi Taluka: Prachet Malvankar, Joshua Telles, Shreyash Hawal, Lyia Silveira, Avani Sawaikar, Murial Fernandes.
Mahesh Candolkar was the chief guest at the prize distribution function and the prizes were distributed in the presence of Dnyaneshwar Naik, Chairman of AD-hoc Committee, Sachin Arolkar, Convenor; Ashesh Keni, Dattaram Pinge, , Arvind Mhamal, Atish Angle, Prakash Sawant, Naresh Pednekar, Heramb Prabhudesai, Sandesh Amonkar Giridhar Phadte, Nandhini Mhamal and other office-bearers of TTCA and Mahalaxmi Vachan Mandir Hall.
