PANAJI: Goa’s Dayne Coelho, Pearl Colvalcar and Keona Rajani have been selected to represent India at the Asian Sailing Championships 2022 to be held in Abu Dhabi from 28th February to 6th March 2022, states a press release by Goa Yachting Association (GYA).
The competition happens to be the last of the continental championships before the Asian Games 2022 to be held in China and will therefore be one of the quaifiers for the Indian team, in various sailing disciplines.
According to GYA, Dayne – who is India’s top-ranked windsurfer in the Men RS:X class – stands a very good chance to win a medal and qualify for the Asian Games 2022. Pearl Colvalcar who is sailing in Women Laser Radial class, will give it all in her first international regatta and hopes to finish in the top 8 and qualify behind Nethra Kumanan for the Asian Games.
The GYA press communique however, added that Keona Rajani, who was selected in the women IQ Foil class, is “unfortunately unable to attend the Championships due to her 12th board exams.”
Derrick Menezes has been named Windsurfing coach, to accompany the Indian team.
GYA meanwhile thanked Commanding Officer, Col. Johal of Army Yachting Node, for his support as Dayne and Pearl are currently training in Mumbai under the able guidance of Sub. Alexander Prakash, Windsurfing Coach and Laser Coach Sub. Dharmendra Singh.
