BADMINTON FOR WOMEN: INDIA FOOTBALL COACH MAYMOL ROCKY AMONG PARTICIPANTS

PANAJI: India women’s football coach Maymol Rocky was among the participants in an unique badminton competition for amateurs with a thought to bring the working ladies, housewives out of their regular routines and motivate them for physical fitness.

Ketki Naik and Uma Korgaonkar emerged victors at the second women’s doubles badminton tournament, organised by Inner Wheel Club of Mapusa in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association and Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA). Ketki and Uma edged out Ramona D’Souza and Maymol Rocky 15-12, 8-15, 15-11 in a closely fought finals at Peddem, Mapusa.

Shambhavi Rao / Hina Kunji and Shailaja Kohli / Audrey Pereira settled for third place (losing semi-finalist). In the power smashers contest, Asmita Kandolkar, Priyanka Fernandes, Steffi Fernandes and Sonali Bhatt complete the top-4 finishers respectively.

A total of 58 women participated in this women’s special tournament. Inner Wheel Club of Mapusa distributed ‘Josa Sanitary Pads’ among the participants, to make an awareness of using these biodegradable pads.

Joshua D’ Souza, MLA, Poonam Govekar, President of Inner Wheel Club of Mapusa, Sachin Mense, past president, Rotary Club of Panaji, Sandeep Heble, Secretary, Goa Badminton Association; Selvyn Godinho, tournament referee, were present for the closing function.
