Indian Women “A” team comprising Varalakshmi Periasamy, Sumathi Iyer, Ameeta Raythatha, Vasanti Shah, Asha Sharma, and Puja Batra entered the semi final of the Women event collecting 105.39 Victory Points (VPs) and securing 3rd position in overall ranking at the conclusion of 9th round Swiss league in the ongoing Bonus 5th Asia Bridge Cup being held at Dona Paula, on Wednesday.
Beside India “A”, league leader China (127.61 VPs) , 2nd-placed Indonesia (108.23) and 4th-placed Japan (89.14 VPs) also moved into the last-four knock-out stage bagging 1st, 2nd & 4th position respectively in the league stage. Indian Women “B” team finished at the bottom with 69.98 VPs.
In the league matches of other events of the day, Indian “B” team at the end of the 10th round maintainanded their top position in the Seniors section having 126.63 VPs and are followed by Australia ( 115.15VPs) and Chinese Taipei ( 110.89 VPs).
Indian Men teams, both “A” and “B” also improved their performance in their event taking 3rd and 4th spots with 134.95 and 134.81 VPs respectively while China countined to rule the proceedings remaining at the top collecting 152.06 VPs . Hong Kong China “A” is in the second position now with 145 . 95 VPs. Unfancied Bangladesh has also improved to take the fifth position at the moment collecting 129.13 VPs.
Maintaining their top billing China is also showing their might in the Mixed event and at the end of the 11th round, their “A” and “B” team are at the first and second places with 143.01 and 138.83 VPs respectively. They are followed by Hong Kong China ( 126.65) and Australia “A” ( 117.98 VPs). India “B” is now placed in 7th position (109.03 VPs) while their compatriots “A” team is at the 12th spot ( 93,77).
Indian Women “A” team which has qualified to the last four stage put up an overwhelming performance against Hong Kong China “B” in their last league match today. Displaying fine acumen Indian Women “A” players collected 19.83 VPs against only 0.17 VPs by Hong Kong China “B” which paved their way to the semifinal considerably. At the 11th round today, Indian Men “A” earned 13.96 VPs against 6.04 by Thailand while India “B” could collect only 3.79 VPs against Japan who gathered 16.21 VPs.
